The aim of this chapter is to study the relationship between verbs and deverbal nouns within the derivational series and sub-series which constitute a word family. Specifically, it explores, from a historical point of view, some of the changes that Spanish deverbal nouns have undergone inside derivational series with regard to their original base verb. In doing so, this article proves that morphological irregularities can only be detected from a diachronic perspective. Keywords: word family; derivational series; morphological change; deverbal noun
