The aim of this chapter consists of an initial overall approach to the research carried out over the last 40 years on the process of normalising the Catalan Language in the conventional media (press, radio and television) and online. Firstly, it summarizes the research on the relationship between language policies and communication policies related to the processes of normalisation (“status planning”); secondly, the study of the general process of language standardisation in the media, (“corpus planning”); and, thirdly, the study of the processes and scope of implementation of Catalan in the media (extension of use).
(Note. Because of the limited amount of space permitted for this article, we have had to make a careful selection of all the research that has been published. To make it easier for the reader to situate the research in the period studied, we have listed the references in decades according to the date of publication.)
