The present paper presents an investigation of financial jargon evident in Norwegian newspapers that can be related to the recent financial crisis. The study is a first step in exploring whether newspapers are useful sources from which to extract Norwegian terminology to be included in for instance termbases. In addition, it will provide a basis for considering whether there may be a need for a planned development of financial terminology in Norway. The paper reports on how financial jargon is used in Norwegian newspapers in relation to the concepts of financial crisis, credit crunch, subprime and hedge fund. In particular, the analysis focuses on whether Norwegian terminology is formed or English terms are maintained to describe these concepts.
