In spite of a mutual desire for closer relations, it has to be concluded that modern experimental phonetics has little to offer to the pronunciation teacher, apart from a number of technical appliances. Pronunciation teaching is only concerned with what can be heard with the naked ear and therefore does not need experimental support.
